This digital thermometer will revolutionize the way we check body temperature

Don't like most thermometers found used to measure body temperature these days? Don't like the fact that you have to either keep them in your mouth or 'insert' them somewhere? You may soon have an option, courtesy Withings. The Nokia-owned company recently introduced Thermo, a digital thermometer which it claims is the smartest and most accurate way of measuring body temperature.

And since Withings recently entered the Indian market with its range of fitness devices, we can expect the company to launch Thermo too in the Indian market

Priced at $99.95, Thermo can measure body temperature even when kept at a distance of 1cm away. Users just need to scan the Thermo across the forehead and get an 'accurate' reading with its 16 infrared sensors that take over 4,000 measurements in two seconds to detect the hottest point.

Thermo measures temperature from temporal artery, considered to be the best place to detect temperature change, as the blood that circulates there comes from the core of the body

The device has a coloured LED indicator which shows the body temperature. It is linked to the Thermo app which automatically syncs all the readings to the user's smartphone. Based on age, fever history, and symptoms, the Thermo app also gives advanced health advice. Thermo connects via Wi-Fi to sync multiple readings, this means that the whole family can use it to keep an eye on their temperature over time.

Along with measuring the temperature, users can also enter comments, medications, and even photos in any user profile. This helps them see if the treatment is effective and allows them to have a complete history to share with the doctor

Recently, Withings entered Indian market with the launch of Withings Activite Pop, Activite Steel, Activite Sapphire and Pulse Ox smartwatches. The company also launched fitness bands alongside Withings Home HD camera, Aura sleep monitor, and Blood Pressure Monitor.

Starting with wrist gears, the company's Activite Pop, Activite Steel, and Activite Sapphire trackers are priced at Rs 14,999, Rs 17,999, and Rs 34,999 respectively

Apple launches wireless AirPods with charging case at Rs 15,400

At its recently concluded keynote event, Apple launched its brand new wireless headphones. Dubbed Apple AirPods, the two headphones let users access the company's digital assistant Siri by tapping gestures. In addition, functions like changing tracks and controlling volume can be executed by double tapping on the headphones as well.

Apple AirPods come with their own charging-cum-carrying case and are priced at $159 in the US and Rs 15,400 in India. They'll be available on the company website as well as physical retail stores. The headphones work with Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 and macOS Sierra, and will be available in India starting October

The wireless in-ear headphones are powered by an ultra-low power Apple-designed W1 chip. The chip lets AirPods deliver high-quality audio and better battery life. Furthermore, there are optical sensors and accelerometers in each AirPod that automatically detect when they are plugged into the ears. Removing them automatically pauses the music, thus saving battery life. It is also possible to remove one of the Airpods from the ears for having a conversation and then plug it back to resume listening to music.

Apple says that the W1 chip operates on one-third of the power of traditional wireless chips, delivering up to 5 hours of listening time.

"AirPods are the first headphones to deliver a breakthrough wireless audio experience, and with the new Apple W1 chip they deliver innovative features including high quality sound, great battery life and automatic setup," said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing

"AirPods are simple and magical to use, with no switches or buttons, automatically connecting to all your Apple devices simply and seamlessly and letting you access Siri with just a double tap. We can't wait for users to try them with iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2."

The company, as rumoured before, has also ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack in its iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus smartphones. The new devices connect with headphones using the Lightning port. The company will also be shipping a Lightning to 3.5mm adaptor for those who want to use 3.5mm headphones with the new iPhones
